The World Cafe has produced a remembrance of Aretha Franklin's music and amazing life. WRUR will air this special today 2PM.

Rochester's Mikaela Davis comes home for a show and CD release party at Abilene Saturday 8/11 before heading to Europe. She will be showcasing her new album "Delivery". She will join Scott in the studio for an interview and live music Saturday Morning beginning at 10AM.

Different Radio will once again be live at the Grassroots Festival this Friday morning beginning at 9:00 during Open Tunings with Scott Regan. Scott will interview artists in this year's festival, and will include some live performances from the festival site. 

This year's GrassRoots Festival begins Thursday, July 19th and runs through the weekend, with many favorites and special guests, including host Donna the Buffalo, Patty Griffin, Toots & the Maytals, The Wood Brothers, Valerie June, Jim Lauderdale, Keith Frank & Soileau Zydeco, The Campbell Brothers, Driftwood, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Sim Redmond Band, and Big Mean Sound Machine will perform, just to name a few. Here is the complete lineup.

Yo-Yo Ma opened his recent Tiny Desk concert with the gently rolling "Prelude" from J. S. Bach's Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1. It's music Ma has lived with nearly all of his life.

"Believe it or not, this was the very first piece of music I started on the cello when I was four years old," he told the crowd, tightly squeezed between the office furniture on NPR's fourth floor.

Today, we're featuring a mini-concert from an artist you might first know as an actor. Lera Lynn's turn on the second season of True Detective introduced her to a lot of America, including myself. But those in the know have recognized her voice, style and songwriting ability, shown on albums like Resistor or The Avenues.

That's the title of a tune Charlie Parker recorded 70 years ago, along with the guy who wrote it, guitarist and singer Lloyd "Tiny" Grimes. The rhyming lines are shoehorned in a bit, describing the title situation as "a nuisance," one that "just don't make sense." Not exactly Hallmark card material with Valentine's Day approaching, but something to consider as we head through a week of fundraising on WRUR.
