Gaelynn Lea in Concert, 9/22 at Iron Smoke

When Gaelynn Lea w on NPR Music’s 2016 Tiny Desk Contest, her two decades as a hardworking and talented musician finally crystallized in a beautiful moment of national recognition. It was also just the beginning of a grand adventure. With the wind of her award at their backs, Gaelynn and her husband Paul sold their house in Northern Minnesota, quit their jobs, bou ght a van, and hit the road. On Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 9 p.m. she'll be performing at Iron Smoke Distillery’s World Famous Spirit Factory, Watering Room and Side Show (111 Parce Ave in Fairport on the other side of the American Can Factory). WRUR Different Radio is proud to be the presenter of this special performance, which is a free event! Drinks are available for purchase at Iron Smoke's bar.

Gaelynn Lea is coming to Fairport this weekend for a free concert at Iron Smoke and you can stream the album this week. Join us for the concert Saturday September 22 at 9PM.

This Saturday, WRUR will be broadcasting live as part of the WXXI Open House, from 10AM til 3PM. Scott Regan and John Sebaste will be in Studio 280 as part of our broadcast schedule. In addition, there will be fun, food, and so much more, including:

A former factory in Brooklyn has come a long way from its industrial past. The building has been converted into a vibrant space where artists and musicians can hone their craft.

National Sawdust, a name that pays homage to its building's former function, is a nonprofit musical venue that spends nearly a quarter of its annual $4 million budget to commission new works, to record and release albums and to support young artists.

Despite being one of the first and oldest forms of popular music, opera sometimes struggles to connect with 21st century audiences. However, Anthony Roth Costanzo is breaking down the genre's stodgy stereotype and making opera more accessible — taking his distinctive sound to the masses, from a sixth-grade classroom in the Bronx to NPR's own Tiny Desk.
