Grab some snacks and a party hat! You're invited to the 33rd anniversary celebration of NPR Music and West Virginia Public Broadcasting's Mountain Stage.

Revered singers and songwriters Billy Bragg and Joe Henry perform on this week's broadcast of Mountain Stage, with songs that celebrate the wide-open romance of the American railroad.

Here they perform the John Hartford classic "Gentle on My Mind" in a show that also features performances by Chris Smither, Robert Ellis, LAU, and Kaia Kater.

This week's Mountain Stage Song of the week features our own Bob Thompson, with his take on the classic American folk tune "Shenandoah," which was recorded live on the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Under the direction of dobro master Jerry Douglas, The Earls of Leicester perfectly conjure the sounds of bluegrass legends Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs — and in the process, have created one of music's great band-name puns. Recreating the spirit of bluegrass giants is serious business though, and it paid off when the group took home a 2015 Grammy for its efforts.

They appear on this week's broadcast of Mountain Stage with Larry Groce, alongside Lera Lynn, Cheryl Wheeler, Rob Ikes & Trey Hensley and Nora Jane Struthers.

This weekend, Mountain Stage listeners will hear a new voice on the show as we welcome a very special guest host: Joni Deutsch.

The show, which was recorded June 26 at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, West Virginia, will feature live performances by dreamy indie poppers Lucius, acclaimed singer-songwriter Rachel Yamagata, New York-based rocker Margaret Glaspy, gothic blues artist Adia Victoria and West Virginia rock-and-roller William Matheny.

Mountain Stage fans are a passionate lot. Last month, we announced the return of The Indigo Girls to our nationally-syndicated live performance radio program, leading to a totally sold out show within hours of the announcement.

This week's broadcast of Mountain Stage proudly introduces two very deserving West Virginia voices: the first in special guest host Joni Deutsch, and the second in Mannington native William Matheny in his solo debut.

Here he performs "Living Half to Death," from his new album Strange Constellations, on a show that also features sets by Lucius, Rachel Yamagata, Adia Victoria and Margaret Glaspy.

Back in June when Mountain Stage announced that Indigo Girls were returning to Mountain Stage September 18 in Charleston, WV, it only took a few hours for tickets to sell out. Sometimes we can't believe our own luck, as it turned out that September 18 we'd be joined by a country-music icon and her new band, Wynonna & the Big Noise.
