  • Born in East Rochester in June of 1941, and a graduate of East Rochester High School in 1959, John worked in radio at WSAY (which in 1981 became WXXI-AM) from 1963 to 1981. He did a request radio program called Melody corner and went by the name of Mike Melody. The first day John went on the air was the date John Kennedy was assassinated. He covered the presidential inauguration of Lyndon Johnson along with another announcer from our sister station in Buffalo WNIA, live from Lafayette Park in Washington DC. The coverage was the only independent radio station among all the other network stations. John later went on to become program director, and then station manager of WSAY following the death of the owner, Gordon Brown. When the station the station was sold, John went to work for WYLF, "The Music of your life." After a two-year stint with that radio station, he left to pick up my career of bartending that he always had in his back pocket. In 1993, John returned to Radio at WRUR, with the birth of La Dolce Vita, a program of Italian music , both new and old, along with some local news to the Italian American community of Rochester and beyond. Since the advent of the Internet, the program is listened to in Italy and other parts of the world. John takes a lot of pride in producing this program, as it is his lifelong dream to have his own programs and it has become his full-time hobby during his retirement.
