WRUR 88.5 Different Radio

Folk Alley

Saturday 6-8am
  • Hosted by Elena See

Genre: Folk and Acoustic Music

The Folk Alley Radio Show is a weekly two-hour radio show and it’s a show that prides itself on playing the good stuff. You’ll hear folk, roots, blues, bluegrass, Americana - anything and everything that falls under the wide (and getting wider every day) “folk music” umbrella. Expect an eclectic, handcrafted, and diverse playlist every week that showcases the newest voices around as well as the classics from the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. The Folk Alley Radio Show focuses on “good music” rather than on specific genres or labels, and includes a wide range of diverse voices and experiences every week, along with many of Folk Alley’s exclusive studio sessions. Elena See has been an on-air host with Folk Alley since 2005 and has been listening to music for as long as she can remember. A world without music...perish the thought. From Johnny Cash to Kyshona Armstrong, Bob Dylan to Amanda Shires, Mavis Staples to Jake Blount, the joy of discovering new artists and re-discovering familiar folk favorites is the reason Elena keeps coming back week after week. Join her every week for new music, familiar favorites, exclusive interviews and sessions, and YOUR requests.

We have some new weekend shows and shows moved times recently, so we thought to put the changes in a quick note. As always, you can check out the current schedule at https://www.wrur.org/schedule

For 24 years, the airwaves have heard a familiar voice bringing folk music to the Rochester area and since 2010, to Ithaca and the Finger Lakes on WITH. Ray Baumler has been there since the start, a program that highlighted the folk genre in all its various forms. Along with friend, Tom Bohan alternating each week as host, the program was a regular feature of the Rochester radio scene until this past weekend. After 24 years, the program came to an end. Ray along with Sue Tennenbaum, decided to end the program.
