Music In Our Schools Month has been celebrated for more than forty years in the United States to raise awareness for the importance of music education for all children.

This year, WXXI and The Route are collaborating with Strings for Success, which is a partnership between The Center for Youth and the Dr. Charles T. Lunsford School 19 in the Rochester City School District. Strings for Success creates opportunities for children to benefit from the transformational power of music making.

Strings for Success is looking for gently used string instruments for their students to use, so if you have one available, you can donate it in-person at The Center for Youth (905 Monroe Ave, Rochester, NY 14620). For more information you can also call them at (585)473-2464 or email info@centerforyouth.net. Finally, you can visit The Center For Youth's donation page to see a full list of their needs.

A native of Herndon, Virginia, Steve came to Rochester to earn his Ph.D. in Musicology at the Eastman School of Music. He has loved classical music and public media since his youth, and has worked for years to make classical music more accessible on social media.
